George Karbo 1907 - 1977

George Karbo of Eatonville, Pierce County, Washington was born on July 18, 1907 to Bessie karbo. He had a brother Chester karbo. He married Marie karbo, and had children Richard A Karbo, Kenneth Ralph Karbo, Phyllis Karbo, Delores karbo, Georgene karbo, Ronnie Karbo, Jeannet karbo, and Sharon Karbo. George Karbo died at age 69 years old in January 1977.

In 1907, in the year that George Karbo was born, in October, over a 3 week period, the New York stock exchange fell almost 50% from the previous year's high mark. Public panic ensued and there were runs on banks since the U.S. was in the middle of a recession. J.P. Morgan offered his own fortune to back the banks and he was followed by other financiers. This temporarily shored up the banking system, stopping the immediate panic. All of this led to the creation of the Federal Reserve.

In 1914, at the age of only 7 years old, George was alive when in June, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated by a Yugoslavian national. Austria-Hungary delivered an ultimatum to Serbia. Other major powers took sides - and World War I began: Austria declared war on Serbia; Germany on Russia and France; Britain on Germany . . . and on it went until most of the world was embroiled in the war.
