    George Paul Koertge Sr. was born to Peter Christian August Koertge (1854 - 1890) and Sarah Koehler (1859 - 1903). His father was born in Germany and his mother was born in Illinois, although the 1920 census says that both parents were born in Germany.. George had four sisters: Viola "Ola", Dora, Alma A., and Louella Koertge. See George Koertge: Obituary.

    George married Della Ann Ridgley (1888 - 1947) on October 23, 1907) in Richland County, Illinois, and they had ten children, including: Katherine, Russell, Geneva, Naomi, Neoma, Robert, Irene, Winifred, and George Jr. On his 1942 World War II draft card, George was described as being 5 feet 6 inches tall and as weighing 150 pounds. He had gray eyes, gray hair, and a "ruddy" complexion. Part of his index finger on his left hand was gone.

    FATHER DIES AT OLNEY Word has been received of the Thursday death of George P. Koertge of Olney. The funeral will be at 1?30 p.m. Saturday at the Oak Grove EUB Church in Parkersburg. Mr. Koertge was the father of Mrs. Gordon B. White of 220 N. University, Normal. - The Pantagraph (Bloomington, Illinois) Friday, March 01, 1963 on page 3.
