Lost Grave
After starting to do Family Tree, had trouble with George's grave site (my Great Great Grandfather). Eventually found the coroners report, which gave his death site, and cemetery. When I contacted the cemetery at Smythesdale, the name was receorded as LOngbridge, they quickly corrected that. On a recent holiday I took a detour to visit the grave and was given a tour by Rosemary the chair of the cemetery commitee. She showed me where the grave would most likely be. The problem was this old section of the Anglican portion had few headstones and the rows were no longer visible. Using what headstones were visible she has worked out the approximate position of the grave. It would take ground penetrating radar to be more precise and government is not keen to spend money on this.
His family moved to the Hunter Valley NSW, where they took to coal mining in Newcastle and later Kurri Kurri and Abermain region. The coal seams at Abermain reached 30 feet thickness.
