Add Memories, Stories & Photos about George

Actually, my Uncle George, did not belong to the Cook family at all. His surname was C***. Even his naval records are incorrectly spelt. He was the son of Lily (nee Spencer) and Richard C***. His brothers Albert Edwin and William Charles were also in the navy during WW2. William or Bill his younger brother, died in the same year aboard HMS Patia off the Northumberland Coast. His story was recorded in a book called The Pale Blue Nightgown ( a collection of stories) under the title of 'Dunkirk Bill'. Both Bill and George died in the service of their country. Their brother Albert and sister (Cis) Jessie always believed that George as Leading Stoker on HMS Gloucester had somehow survived. It was another 50 years later when joining the 'Fighting G's' association for a reunion that Dad finally accepted his brother had not survived the sinking of the Gloucester at the Battle of Crete 22nd May 1941. He finally had closure. All siblings have since passed away, and perhaps if there is something else beyond life, they are together again.
