Our first contact with George Swanston was his marriage Cert. when he married Janet Grieves on Dec.7 1855 in Belfast/Port Fairy Vic. Aust.
Later in 1861 he became the Assistant Lighthouse Keeper at Middle Island of Warrnambool Vic. Aust. the Head Keeper was Robert Deverell.
In 1864 when he left the Assistant Lighthouse Keeper position he returned to his job as a Boatman at the Harbour of Belfast/Port Fairy Vic. Australia
Sadly he died on Dec 7 1867 and is buried in an unknown grave at Port Fairy Cemetery with his infant son Randolph who died the day after his father.
Leaving his widowed wife Janet with 6 more young children:- Eliza 10yrs (our link ancestor) -John 9yrs -James 7yrs-George 5yrs-William4yrs- Mary Ann2yrs& Randolph under 1yr who died the following day of Infantile Convulsions.
We are unable to find anything that links George to Stockton on Tees as it states in his Marriage Cert. Parents John Swanston & Mary Ann nee Wilton
We have not as yet been able to find how or when George Swanston arrived in Australia. On his marriage cert it states his Occupation as SEAMAN
