George William Svetich was born on February 22, 1928 in Dillon, Montana to parents John Martin Swetich (1889-1947) and Carolyn DeLach (born 1903). He had siblings including a brother Walter John Svetich (1930-2012). He enlisted into the Air Corps on April 16, 1946 in Butte Montana and served in the Army until his discharge date of April 17, 1949. The next year, on November 4, 1950, George married Donna Jean Hill (1935-2006) in Dillon, Montana. They had one son together before divorcing after 2 years of marriage on December 22, 1952 due to extreme cruelty from wife to husband. George was granted custody of their child.
