    Master Sergeant Swinney married the love of his life Billie R. They had 2 children: David & Pamela, & 3 grandchildren: Lauren, Christopher, & Jordan Swinney. Sgt. Swinney was the Sergeant of Arms of the North Texas Chapter of the 82nd Airborne ADA. Swinney passed away April 28th 1998 in Texas. He is buried at the Grove Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

    He received his G.E.D. in 1957, & retired from Ford Remanufacturing in 1986.

    Army Presidential Unit Citation United States Army 82nd Airborne Paratrooper Master Sergeant George William Swinney was born Aug. 14th 1925. He enlisted in the Army Sept 19th 1942, assigned to combat duties and jump school with the Airborne Rangers. He served as a Private in World War II, a Sergeant 1st Class in Korea, & a Master Sergeant in Vietnam retiring April 31st 1964 as a E-7 Master Sergeant. According to the 82nd Airborne Division Book by Steven J. Mrozek; Master Sergeant Swinney was recommended for the Medal of Honor and awaits confirmation. He was awarded the following decorations over his 3 War career: -Soldiers Medal -Bronze Star Medal w/ 2 Oak Leaf Clusters -Purple Heart Medal -Good Conduct Medal w/ 3 knot device -American Campaign Medal -European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal w/ arrowhead & 3 battle stars -World War II Victory Medal -Army of Occupation Medal w/ Japan Clasp -National Defense Service Medal w/ Oak Leaf Cluster -Korean War Service Medal w/ 3 Battle Stars -United Nations Korea Service Medal -Combat Infantry Badge -Parachute Badge -Expert Badge w/ Rifle Bar -Sharpshooter Badge w/ Flamethrower Bar -BZ DVC Arrowhead -ADSM -RVN Campaign -Vietnam PUC
