George Warren Pittsley was born in 1939 in Massachusetts United States to Guy Grenville Pittsley and Elsie Irene Thelma (Page) Pittsley, and had siblings Marie May (Pittsley) Kendall, Irene Page Cifelli, Guy Grenville Pittsley Jr., Lewis Pittsley, John Clyde Pittsley, Ralph Francis Pittsley, and Shirley Lorraine (Pittsley) Briggs. George Pittsley died at age 67 years old in 2006 in San Miguel de Cozumel, Q.R. Mexico.

In 1939, in the year that George Warren Pittsley was born, on the 1st of September, Nazi Germany invaded Poland. On September 17th, the Soviet Union invaded Poland as well. Poland expected help from France and the United Kingdom, since they had a pact with both. But no help came. By October 6th, the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany held full control of the previously Polish lands. Eventually, the invasion of Poland lead to World War II.

In 1944, at the age of merely 5 years old, George was alive when on June 22nd, the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, called the G.I. Bill, was signed into law, pushed through by the veteran's organizations. Benefits provided for veterans to return to school (high school, vocational school, or college), obtain low interest home mortgages and low interest business loans, and (if needed) one year of unemployment insurance. Since most returning vets immediately found work, less than 20% of the unemployment benefits were distributed.
