George Watson Ellison of Fairfield, VIC Australia was born on May 1, 1870 in Laanecoorie, Loddon Shire County to William Ellison and Grace Watson Ellison. He had siblings William Tom Ellison, Ellen Ellison, Ada Mary Jane Ellison, Elizabeth Ellison Shankland, and Hannah Grace Ellison. He married Annie (Mcanulty) Ellison in 1892, and had children Clifford Tylden Ellison and Muriel Ida Ellison. George Ellison died at age 66 years old on May 22, 1936 in Fairfield.

Peterson, a school principal, was also the first to hold elected office and the first to sit on a jury.

In 1886, by the time he was 16 years old, on June 13th, the "Great Vancouver Fire" destroyed most of Vancouver, British Columbia. A small brush fire got out of control and spread to the rest of the city. Dozens of people died and it was only after the fire that money was raised for a fire hall. The local Squamish tribe rescued people who had jumped into bodies of water to escape the conflagration.
