Later that year, on April 23, 1943, he enlisted in the military at Fort Myer, Virginia. George spent much of his life living in Washington D.C. and was married multiple times. His first marriage was to Margaret J Zegowitz on November 23, 1945, in Alexandria, Virginia, USA. He then married Doris Katherine Wathen on July 2, 1948, in D.C. Later on, he married Cora McGee on December 12, 1984, in Tarrant, Texas, USA. He was also married to Elva E Rencher from November 25, 1987, until March 21, 1991.

In 1925, in the year that George William Rencher Jr. was born, in July, the Scopes Trial - often called the Scopes Monkey Trial - took place, prosecuting a substitute teacher for teaching evolution in school. Tennessee had enacted a law that said it was "unlawful to teach human evolution in any state-funded school". William Jennings Bryan headed the prosecution and Clarence Darrow headed the defense. The teacher was found guilty and fined $100. An appeal to the Supreme Court of Tennessee upheld the law but overturned the guilty verdict.
