    Georgette Boghos, lovingly known as Yvette, fell asleep in the Lord on Monday, Dec 30th, 2002. Born in Zagazig, Egypt on Aug 24th, 1927, she was the daughter of Elias Boghos and Marie Michacca. She was baptized and raised in her mother's faith, the Melkite Greek Catholic Church, and was given the baptismal name, "Yvette", which she kept for the rest of her life. She was the beloved wife of the late Louli Tewfik Louli. They were married for over 30 years. Yvette lived her life dedicated to her family. Along with her children, she settled in the United States in the late 1970s. She was a matriarchal figure in all the lives of her children and grandchildren, making sure to spend as much time as possible with each of their families in North America. She was predeceased by five of her beloved siblings, Sophie, Michel, Henriette, Leonie and Claire. Dear mother of Dr. Ted Tewfik (Dr. Viviane Habib) of Montreal, Dr. Shoukri Tewfik (Oxana Goumeniouk) of New York, Fr. Stephen Tewfik (Kh. Beba Tewfik) of New Jersey, Samia Tewfik (Raouf Boules) of Maryland, and Nabil Tewfik of California. Beloved grandmother of nine grandchildren: Louli, Nelly, Caroline, George, Sylvia, Paul Michael, Mina, Paul Shoukri, and Christina. Funeral service held at St. Luke's Antiochian Orthodox Church, 13261 Dunklee Ave, Garden Grove, CA.

Al Jolson starred as a cantor's son who instead of following in his father's footsteps as expected, becomes a singer of popular songs. Banished by his father, they reconcile on his father's deathbed. It was a tear-jerker and audiences went wild - especially when they heard the songs. Thus begun the demise of silent films and the rise of "talkies".

Other songs had previously been used - among them, "My Country, 'Tis of Thee", "God Bless America", and "America the Beautiful". There was fierce debate about making "The Star Spangled Banner" the national anthem - Southerners and veterans organizations supported it, pacifists and educators opposed it.
