He had a lot of courage to go to another country without any family. He raised most of his children as a single parent.

Georgios D. Thymaras immigrated to the United States and spent most of his life in Utah. He changed his sir name to Spetsas after immigration. He married Pearl Jane Gritton and they had eight children. He was getting ready to return to Greece when he had a heart attack and died. He is buried in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in the Greek section. The cemetery is directly across the street from the University of Utah.
