  • Military Service

    Gerald D. Mabry was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in WWII, in the European theatre as an armored division cannon operator. After enlisting in the Army in 1943 and serving for 3 years, he returned to the United States with a bride named Colette Isabelle Marie and a son, John Davis, born in February of 1946. After returning to Indiana, he moved to California and later worked in various trades, including insurance sales, until he again reenlisted into the Army during the Korean War (date unknown) and served in the Criminal Investigation Division until being sent to Vietnam, where he served two terms. He achieved the rank of Warrant Officer 4 before retirement. After retirement, he returned to San Pedro, California with a wife, Mariko, of Japanese descent, took employment with the State of California, as an investigator in the Employment Division, and investigated criminal activity in the unemployment insurance fraud division. He continued to work in this capacity until his health began to fail due to being a heavy smoker. He developed emphysema and was hospitalized until his death. Upon death, his body was transported to Indiana for burial in his family's plot. His headstone reads, "A Friend to Many" and lies adjacent to his Mother's (Arlee) gravesite.
  • Professional Career

    Gerald was an excellent salesman and worked in the Life Insurance business, and remained a Life Insurance salesman for much of his life. He had the equivalent of two years college, without a degree, taking various liberal science courses during his Army career, which was in the "CID" (Criminal Investigation Division) of the Military Police. Gerald served two tours in Vietnam as well as many years in the Army until his retirement (date unknown-mid 70's). After retirement from the U.S. Army, he took employment with the State of California as a fraud investigator in the Employment Services.
