Gerald David DeYoung 1945 - 2020

Gerald David DeYoung was born on July 4, 1945 in Abington, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania United States to John Couston DeYoung and Helen Louise DeYoung, and had siblings William James DeYoung, Robert James DeYoung, Nancy Helen Walton, John Paul DeYoung, and Thomas Gerald DeYoung. He married Mary Margaret DeYoung in 1967 in Willow Grove, Montgomery County, and they were married until Gerald's death on April 21, 2020 in Feasterville-Trevose, Bucks County. He had children Robert Gerald DeYoung Sr., Jody Barbara Sckupakus, and Angelene Mary DeYoung. Gerald DeYoung was buried on July 2, 2020 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery 830 Highland Rd, in Newtown.

    He was my father's old neighbor when he was renting that one house that got turned into a ski shop. This happened right around the time when he and my mother got divorced. He was born to the late John and Helen (nee Sanquilly) DeYoung and was the youngest of five children. His only sister, who was the oldest of the five, were almost 20 years apart in age. He obviously got buried a few months later because of the pandemic.

In 1945, in the year that Gerald David DeYoung was born, on January 9th, the (over 8 month long) Battle of Luzon began in the Philippines with the United States and Filipino forces attacking Japanese forces - with the intent to take back control of the Philippines. By March, the Allies had taken control of all of the strategically and economically important locations in the Philippines but pockets of resistance held out until the surrender of Japan in August.
