Gerry and I met in the summer of 1977 the year before I went into nursing school. We dated off and on. I was there with him when he struggled with his illness and later. He was a guest in my home and in my parents home over the years and my children and I even spent a few Christmases with his family when they resided in Brentwood MO. Over the years he would stop by my office or call me if there was some current issue or relationship he wanted to weigh in on. He was a gentle kind man. A poet and spiritual person when he was well. When he moved to Versailles MO I lost contact with him. It was only today that I learned of his death. He has been on my mind a lot lately and I wanted to ask his doctor if he was still in contact. Consequently I decided not to put the doctor in the place of reminding me about confidentiality. So, I decided to google his name and see if I could find a current address. Sadly, I found he had died and have been overwhelmed by the amount of time that had past since I had last spoke to him. If he is buried locally I would like to visit his grave and say a few prayers. My children and I loved him very much.
