    MAy 2, 2006 Journal-News, Hamilton, Ohio Gerlene BLACKWELL, A resident of resident of Calvin, Kentucky and formerly of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the Pineville Community Hospital. She was born July 1, 1933 in Bell Co., Kentucky the daughter of the late Robert Miracle and Carrie Hoskins Miracle. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Blackwell, and two brothers Gordon and Boyd Miracle. At the time of her passing she was 72 years old. She is survived by her children, Daniel (Judy) Blackwell and Pam (Bruce) Tinsley, both of Hamilton; her loving companion, Odel Bingham of Calvin, Kentucky; brothers James Miracle of Calvin, Kentucky and Robert (Nancy) Miracle of Hamilton; sisters Shirley Osborn of Tennessee, Lillie Gibson of Middlesboro, Kentucky and Hattie (Donnie) Evans of Virginia; grandchildren Michelle Lambert and Nick Blackwell, both of Calvin, Kentucky, Chantae Lambert, Gabe Eaton, Nathan Lambert, Jessica Tinsley and Paige Tinsley, all of Hamilton; great- grandchildren Shy'anne and Aliya of Hamilton; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services was 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Rose Hill Burial Park in Hamilton, Ohio, with visitation 6-9 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006 at the Creech-Durham Funeral Home in Pineville, Kentucky. Visitation in Hamilton was Monday from 12-2 p.m. at Rose Hill Burial Park. Creech Durham Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

In his first 100 days, he asked Congress to repeal Prohibition (which they did), signed the Tennessee Valley Authority Act, signed legislation that paid commodity farmers to leave their fields fallow, thus ending surpluses and boosting prices, signed a bill that gave workers the right to unionize and bargain collectively for higher wages and better working conditions as well as suspending some antitrust laws and establishing a federally funded Public Works Administration, and won passage of 12 other major laws that helped the economy.
