Gilbert Ernest Robinson of Preston, City of Darebin County, VIC Australia was born circa 1876 in Saint Arnaud, Northern Grampians Shire County to Charles Arthur Robinson and Mary Susannah Featherstone Robinson. He had siblings Arthur Josiah Robinson, Mabel Selina Maria Robinson, Margaret Louisa (Robinson) Walker, and Charles Alfred Robinson. He married Mabel Taylor Robinson in 1901, and had children Gwendolene Winifred May Robinson, Gilbert Mervyn John Robinson, Cyril Meredyth Charles Robinson, Edna Valmai Robinson, Aubrey Arthur Mo Robinson, Mabel Norma Valerie Robinson, Lorna Mary Athalie Robinson, Norman Ernest Lloyd Robinson, Edward Lawrence Robinson, and Owen Featherston Robinson. Gilbert Robinson died at age 56 years old on April 23, 1933 in Preston, City of Darebin County.

In 1876, in the year that Gilbert Ernest Robinson was born, on February 14th, Alexander Graham Bell applied for a patent for the telephone. So did Elisha Gray. A month later, on March 7th, Bell was granted the patent and on the 10th, he made his first successful telephone call - in which he said: "Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you."

In 1886, when he was merely 10 years old, on May 4th, a general strike began in Chicago. Workers were striking for an 8 hour workday and in protest of the killing - by police - of several workers the day before. When an unknown person threw a dynamite bomb, the strike became violent. Seven policemen were killed as well as 4 civilians. It became known as the Haymarket Riot and eventually resulted in an 8 hourwork day as well as commemorations on May 1st for worker's rights.
