Obituary

Groton - Gilbert O. "Beetle" Bailey, 72, of 5 Corey Rd., Groton died Friday morning. He was born May 28, 1936, in Wakefield, Mass., the son of Harry and Charlotte Sperry Bailey. He married Carolyn Nelson Bailey in Groton on June 13, 1959. The Baileys would have been married 50 years this June. Mr. Bailey retired from Pfizer where he had been a shift foreman in clarification. He was currently working for Werner, Sullivan and Nilson in New London. He served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. In addition to his wife Carolyn, he is survived by a son, James Bailey and his wife, Vicki of Sheperdsville, Ky.; two daughters, Cynthia Lala and her husband, Larry of Rockville, Tenn. and Lori Mitchell and her husband, Ed of Pawcatuck; three brothers, Russell Bailey and his wife, Joan of Kansas, James Bailey and his wife, Mary of Groton Long Point and Bruce Bailey and his wife, Sun of Montville; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren who he was devoted to, and many friends who truly loved and cared for him. He was predeceased by a son, Darren Bailey. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Bishop Seabury Church in Groton. Burial is private. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton. Donations in his memory may be made to the Bishop Seabury Church, Men's Ministries, 256 North Rd., Groton, CT 06340.
