Gilbert W Gagnon's History: 1922 - 1979

Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

Born in April of 1922, Gilbert was the only child of Mr. William J. and Mrs. Molly C. Gagnon, of Milford, CT. Gilbert's father (WJG) was a successful engineer/inventor with numerous patents, including the "coupling" machine that made it possible to mass-produce BEAD CHAIN in whatever size and quantity was desired. Gilbert graduated from Bassick High School 1939 in Bridgeport, CT and flew his own airplane while still in his teens. In 1945 Gilbert married a former classmate from Bassick, Virginia DePledge, in Fairfield, CT. In NC and CT, Virginia and Gilbert had three boys - born, respectively, in Nov.1946, Nov.1947, and Mar.1949. Gilbert left Virginia and his sons c.1953, and moved to the theater district in NYC. He then worked as a set designer/carpenter while auditioning for acting roles. There seems to be no record as to him ever appearing in any productions. He was also, apparently, becoming quite a heavy drinker. There (NYC, c.1954) he met and married his second wife "Olivia". They had a daughter in 1955. Olivia also tossed Gilbert, c.1960. He died in Naples, FL with (at least) his third wife... another "Virginia" c. 1980. A genius I.Q., spoiled as a kid, then a womanizer w/an addiction to alcohol, Gilbert was always going "every which way but loose". Piloting a charter fishing boat when he died (brain anurism), he was also building himself another airplane in his last wife's garage. R.I.P. Gilbert. You really burned yourself out.

By the end of the month they had unearthed the steps and broken through the door into the intact tomb. This was the only tomb that had remained unlooted that had been found (and is, to date). Filled with gold, jewels, and ancient everyday items, the find was priceless - in terms of money and history.
