    Gilda F. Hochgertel (nee Eroclani),age 88,of Riverside,passed away peacefully on December 5,2014. Born in Camden,NJ,she grew up in south Philadelphia and lived in Camden prior to Riverside where she resided for 55 years. She was a loving wife,mother and grandmother who enjoyed caring for her family. Gilda is predeceased by her husband Robert F. Hochgertel in 1998,her daughter Aida Walker,her two brothers;John and Reynolds Eroclani and her three sisters;Conchetta Odorisio,Gloria Schisler and Aida Eroclani. She is survived by her son Robert F. Hochgertel,Jr. and his wife Linda,and her two grandchildren;Alexis Aida and Ainsley Jaine,of Haddonfield,NJ. She is also survived by her daughter Jill Bowman and her husband William of Surf City,NJ and her step-granddaughter Suzanne Sheets and step-great grandchildren Gesica and Will. A Memoiral Gathering will take place on Monday,December 15,2014,from 10:30 A.M. to 11 A.M. followed by a Memorial Service at Maxwell Funeral Home,573 Mill Creek Road,Manahawkin,NJ 08050. Gilda loved loved and lived for her children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers,donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital so that she may continue to help and care for other children. In 1926, in the year that Gilda Frances Hochgertel was born, on November 15th, NBC was founded. It was the U.S.'s first major broadcast network. Ownership of the network was split between RCA (a majority partner at 50%), its founding corporate parent General Electric (which owned 30%), and Westinghouse (which owned the remaining 20%).

In 1938, when she was merely 12 years old, on June 25th (a Saturday) the Fair Labor Standards Act was signed into law by President Roosevelt (along with 120 other bills). The Act banned oppressive child labor, set the minimum hourly wage at 25 cents, and established the maximum workweek at 44 hours. It faced a lot of opposition and in fighting for it, Roosevelt said "Do not let any calamity-howling executive with an income of $1,000 a day, ...tell you...that a wage of $11 a week is going to have a disastrous effect on all American industry."
