    Giraldo Gerardo"Gerry" Grasseschi was born on August 19, 1915 to parents Dante Grasseschi and Anina"Anne" Tabaracci. He had siblings Julio, Antonio, Orlando, Natalino, Divino, Lydia, and Lada. His mother Anne was born around 1890 in Santa Maria del Giudice, Lucca, Italy. She immigrated to the US around 1910 and resided in Hancock, Michigan. She lived there most of her life and passed away in Franklin, Houghton, Michigan, USA on December 20, 1942. His father Dante was born on June 20, 1880 in Santa Maria del Giudice, Lucca, Italy. He immigrated to the states and arrived in 1908. They lived in Quincy, Houghton, Michigan and he worked as a copper miner. He passed away on March 30, 1961 in Hancock, Houghton County, Michigan, USA.

    In the later 1940's his career was an "entertainer" in Saginaw, Michigan, USA as he was a tavern singer. He sang with a group called the Oxford Boys, and traveled widely throughout the United States with a group called The Alex Shay Trio of which there are several recordings. While he got his start in Vaudeville, Gerardo could sing opera in Italian, “Come Back To Sorrento,” and Standards of the day such as “Arivaderci Roma.” Gerardo’s last years were in Las Vegas as a lounge singer in the local casinos and active with the Italian American Club.

  • Personal Life & Family

    On August 5, 1950 Gerardo married Clara Barsanti (1921–) in Cook County Illinois. Their marriage was short as he re married on October 6, 1946 to Ruth Irene Plant (1914–1997) in Saginaw, Michigan, USA. He and Ruth also separated and Gerardo married once more to Mary Lou Crow Jenkins (1930–2019) around 1955. Gerardo and Ruth had a daughter, Valli Anina in 1965, while living in Dearborn Michigan. At the time Gerardo was the manager of a restaurant in Detroit called Cliff Bells. He would often entertain guess playing his guitar and singing.

Gerardo my birth father
I’m Mike Wallman an adopted son of the Stanley Wallman family. I was born in 1952 in Burbank CA. In 2016 I submitted a DNA sample to Ancestry and found first cousins. We were all so happy to find each other and there was a huge family reunion in Hancock MI to meet me. Lots of stories and information about Gerardo and the Grasseschi family have been shared. I even met my half sister Valli who sees a lot of her father in me. He was an entertainer singing and playing guitar all over the USA. I also sing and play guitar but as a pastor I do it in church 😊
