He has siblings Charles Gingrich, Paul Gingrich, Harold Gingrich, and Anna Mary (Gingrich) Rosenberger. He married Reba Marie (Rich) Gingrich, and they were married until Glenn's death on June 1, 1997. Glenn Gingrich has a child Glynda (Gingrich) Fox.

He later moved to Indiana and married his wife Reba. Later in life he retired to the farm of his mother-in-law in Livingston, Tennessee.

In 1935, in the year that Glenn R Gingrich was born, on August 14, the Social Security Act was signed into law. The purpose was to "provide federal assistance to those unable to work". The law established the Social Security Administration whose primary focus was to "provide aid for the elderly, the unemployed, and children". The Act survived many Supreme Court challenges and the Administration continues until today.
