A. was born on September 5, 1915 at Defeated Creek Community near Carthage, Tennessee in Carthage (Defeated Creek Community), Smith County. He was married to Bobbie J. Dillehay in New Albany, Union County, Mississippi United States, and had children Edith Ann (Dillehay) Johnson, Glenn Woodrow Dillehay II, Pamela Jan Dillehay, and Don Roger Dillehay. Glenn Dillehay died at age 78 years old on May 21, 1994 at Vanderbilt Harton Hospital North Jackson Street, in Tullahoma, Coffee County, Tennessee United States, and was buried at Concord Cemetery Concord Road, in Tullahoma.

  • Introduction

    Glenn Woodrow Dillehay Sr. was born September 5, 1915 in Smith County, Tennessee in the Defeated Creek community. His parents were James Esker Dillehay and Minnie Ann Hadley Dillehay. Glenn married Bobbie J. Jones Dillehay from Chickasaw County, Mississippi. Four children resulted, Edith, Glenn II, Pam, & Don. Glenn passed away at Tullahoma Vanderbilt Harton Hospital May 21, 1994. He held the rank of captain and was a charter member of Hickerson Station Volunteer Fire Department in Tullahoma, Tennessee as well as served multiple terms after being elected constable of his district around the Rutledge Falls community in Manchester, Tennessee (Coffee County) where he raised his family. He went to Florida and drove the first fire truck 🚒 back to Hickerson Station Volunteer Fire Department in Tullahoma when rural fire departments were first established in Coffee County, Tennessee. He attended Howard Bible College (now Samford University) in Jefferson County, Alabama (near Birmingham), before buying a farm near Rutledge Falls and moving to Manchester, Tennessee. His brother was Aubrey Hart Dillehay of Nashville, and his three sisters were Mabel Lavina Dillehay Stinnett of Nashville, Hilary Hester Dillehay Lind of Duncan Falls, Ohio, and Bonnie Lee Slaughter Painter of Birmingham, Alabama. Glenn was an avid fisherman and gardener, and was of the Baptist faith. His grandfather was a Baptist preacher—Jesse James Dillehay of Smith County, Tennessee. Dillehay is a Norman-French (Viking) name, originally spelled de la Haye, and later Delahaye. Like Chevrolet, there is also a Delahaye automobile made in New Jersey. Photos are on the internet. Glenn is buried in Concord Cemetery in Tullahoma.
