    Gordon was "killed in action" near the Normandy French town of Loon Plage in an attempt to liberate the village that was near the town of Dunkirk: a heavily fortified city held by Germans till May 1945. A lake in northern Saskatchewan has been named Elleraas Lake to commemorate his passing and contribution.
