  • Introduction

Gregorio Coriano Villalba (1920-1976) was born in Puerto Rico to Lucia Villalba (1895-1964) and Victoriano Coriano Concepcion (1887-1981). He spent his childhood in Nuevo, Puerto Rico, where he lived with his parents and six siblings: Pedro, Juan, Eloy, Emilio, Bernardo, and Luis Coriano Villalba. As a young man, Gregorio worked as a kitchen worker at the Lido Hotel in Nuevo. However, in the midst of World War II, he felt a strong sense of duty to his country and enlisted in the US military on February 9, 1942, in Fort Dix, New Jersey. Gregorio served his country for the duration of the war and was discharged on June 24, 1945, after the war ended. Tragically, Gregorio's life was marked by the loss of loved ones.
