An Israeli Jew with big red hair who wore designer jeans and glitter sneakers, Hannah had millions invested with Bernie, so she felt she had a right to keep an eye on the place. She would drop by at least once a week and ask, “What’s Bernie doing? Who’s he talking to? How’s his mood?” Whether or not she got to see him, she would usually stay a couple of hours talking to me. One day I asked her how she had made her fortune. “Exotic chocolates,” she said. “If you keep being friendly with her, she’s going to be here all the time,” Bernie would complain every time he saw her sitting by my desk."
