Hanni (Sondheimer) Vogelweid was born in Berlin where she and her family fled Germany at the age of 11 to Kovno Lithuania. In 1940 her family left due to the Soviet Union's occupation taking the Trans-Siberian railway to Vladivostok then eventually to Japan via ship. They eventually ended up in Shanghai for the duration of World War 2. Hanni found work in the US Army base and married an officer finally going to the United States in 1946. In the mid 1990s Hanni lived in Huntington Beach California and met Chris Tashima and Tom Donaldson. She relayed the story of how she fled Lithuania thanks to Japanese Vice-Consul Chiun Sugihara and shared old photos and documents, which eventually greatly inspired the 1997 movie Visas and Virtue. There are two marriage records for Hanni. She married Alfred M Gade (age 32) when she was 25 on August 21 1949 in Los Angeles Calfiornia, and she married Lloyd G Vogelweid when she was 33 on December 8th 1956 in Los Angeles. In 1996 she lived at 633 Portola Ct in Huntington Beach CA, in 1993 8633 Portola Court Unit 15g in Huntington Beach, and before that at 3316 Rowena Ave in Los Angeles CA 90027.
