    Hans Leip is the poet who wrote the lyrics to the famous war song, Lili Marlene. My father was Karl-Heinz Leip and he was Hans Leip's nephew. This song was played every night during the war. Hans Leip, was a German novelist, poet and playwright, best remembered as the lyricist of Lili Marleen. Leip was the son of a former sailor and harbour-worker at the port of Hamburg.
