Harold Peter Rasmussen was born on July 13, 1908 to Hans Harold Rasmussen and Anna Marie (Laursen), and had siblings Winton H. Rasmussen, Richard Carl Rasmussen, Carl Warren Rasmussen, Martin Hans Rasmussen, Martin Niels Rasmussen, Evelyn Ruth (Rasmussen), and Mable Louise Tarr. He married Marian Louise Rasmussen on August 16, 1941 in Maine United States. He married Mabel Sophia Rasmussen. Harold Rasmussen died at age 97 years old on November 28, 2005.

In 1908, in the year that Harold Peter Rasmussen was born, a mysterious Siberian explosion leveled over 770 square miles of forest. There were no human casualties. Explanations of the explosion have included a comet, meteorite, natural atomic explosion, or a crashed UFO. Although it is called an impact event - the largest one in recorded earth history - there is no crater and it is widely thought that the explosion was caused by a meteor exploding 3 to 6 miles above the earth.

In 1918, he was merely 10 years old when in January, President Wilson presented his Fourteen Points, which assured citizens that World War I was being fought for a moral cause and outlined a plan for postwar peace in Europe. The only leader of the Allies to present such a plan, the Europeans thought Wilson was being too idealistic. The points included free trade, open agreements, democracy and self-determination. They were based on the research and suggestions of 150 advisors.
