When I was little (1980's) my grandparents, Anne Rue and Ralph O. Geiger, used to take my to the bar across the street from their east shore Lake Winnebago home. That bar, Wundrow's Tavern, belonged to their good friend Harriet (and her late husband Elmer). I have many memories playing "Fishin' in the Dark", and "Say You, Say Me" on Harriet's jukebox and sitting underneath the huge encased sturgeon, admiring the Fish of the Great Lakes poster that was posted nearby. Harriet always had a red or orange glass bottle of soda for me that I'd drink out of a small Old Style glass with a little red straw! She always had a large basket of candy bars and small bags of sour cream and onion chips on hand. I loved her big lab "Pal" that grandma and lots of other neighbors would feed as he would make his rounds before going back home to the bar, where Harriet also lived in the back. Harriet always kept a beautiful yard and bushes. I remember her telling stories of how she used to teach when all grades were in one classroom! Harriet was a remarkable woman and lived quite a life!! She was a wonderful friend to my grandparents and to me. I think of her and my grandparents often and miss the area and the old times and great memories.
