  • Introduction

I am not sure if this person is the one that I knew, however, a person by this name was a personal friend of my father, Kenneth Lindberg, who passed away in 1973. The Harry Carlson that I knew was married to a woman known as Anita Carlson. Harry lived on the outskirts of Olympia, He served in the US Army during World War 2. I know that he served in the invasion of Italy, and I assume that he was in the North African campaign. In civilian life, I remember that he worked at Fort Lewis in Washington. He was a master mechanic. In the campaign in Italy, he served there with my Dad's cousin, Arthur Lindberg. I remember that I was told that Art became very sick over there and had a very serious case of Pneumonia. The Army doctors there, wouldn't do anything to help Art recover. Harry went to see the doctors and told them that if they didn't do anything to help Art, that he was positive that they were not likely to survive the war, after that little heart to heart chat, the doctors suddenly decided that they would help Art recover. I last saw Harry some time shortly before my Father passed away in 1973. I stopped to visit him around 1982 or so. He wasn't home and so I talked with a man who lived there. I asked if Harry was home and he informed me he wasn't. I asked if Anita was there, but he told me that Anita had left Harry some time before that. Around 4 or 5 years ago, I drove by his old house and saw that it was all boarded up and vacant. I do remember that Harry and Anita had two daughters, one of whose names was Donnalee, I believe, though I don't recall the name of the other daughter.
