Harton Singer Semple was born to Richard Hollyday Semple (born 1888) and Hester Harton Singer (1887 - 1952). His father was born in Maryland and his mother was born in Pennsylvania. He had a sister, Brown H. Semple, and a brother, Richard Hollyday Semple Jr. Harton Semple married Phyllis Alberta Keister (1921 - 2009 on May `17, 1944 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. They had four children: three daughters and one son. A veteran of World War II, Harton enlisted on February 12, 1943 and was discharged as an officer on August 30, 1945. A native of New York, New York, Harton lived in Kentucky when he was 10 years old and then moved to Pennsylvania when he was 15. He was married in Pennsylvania and later died in Augusta, Georgia at the age of 69, where he was probably visiting. His last residence was in Sewickley, Pennsylvania and he is buried in Sewickley Cemetery.

Harton was a veteran of World War II, having enlisted as an "enlisted man" and leaving the service as an officer.

On his WW2 draft card, dated February of 1942, Harton was described as being 5 feet 11 inches tall and as weighing 165 pounds. He had blue eyes, blonde hair, and a "light" complexion. Harton married Phyllis Alberta Keister (1921 - 2009) on May `17, 1944 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. They had four children: three daughters and one son. He was survived by 7 grandchildren.

SEMPLE On March 19, 1990, Harton Singer Semple of Sewickley, Pennsylvania in Augusta, Georgia; husband of Phyllis Keister Semple; father of Harton Jr. of Sewickley, Fraser S. Foster of Sq. Hill and Carol S. Thompson, Cherry S. Seifert and Heather Semple all of Sewickley; seven grandchildren and one brother, Richard H. Jr. of Sewickley. Friends may call 2 - 4 and 7 -9 Thursday in the Edgeworth Club Sewickley. Services will be held Friday 1 p.m. in the Presbyterian Church in Sewickley, 414 Grant Street. It is suggested that contributions be made to the Heart Fund or US Gold Association, Far-Hills, NJ. Arrangements by Dallas S.
