Hector James Hardie 1887 - 1960

Hector James Hardie of Hawthorn Australia was born in 1887 in Ballarat East, City of Ballarat County, VIC to John Hardie and Annie Reddall Hardie. He had siblings John Leslie Hardie, Norman Kilgour Hardie, Mary Helen Hardie, and William Gordon Hardie. He married Stella Adelle Green in 1912, and had children Mavis Adelle Hardy and Herbert Arthur Reddall Hardy. Hector Hardie died at age 73 years old in 1960.

In 1887, in the year that Hector James Hardie was born, on January 28th, the largest recorded snowflakes fell in a snowstorm in Fort Keogh, Montana. They were supposed to have been 15 inches wide and 8 inches thick. A rancher in the area said that they were “larger than milk pans”. A Wild West tall tale? Not according to the Guinness World Records book.
