Helen Gould Wallace Jeffcoate Shumate 1903 - 1972

Helen Gould (Wallace) Jeffcoate Shumate of Pineville, Wyoming County, West Virginia was born on January 14, 1903 in Dry Fork, Pittsylvania County, Virginia United States to Nathaniel Valentine Wallace and Julia Levada (Aaron) Wallace. She had siblings Raymond Daniel Wallace, George Lee Wallace, Naomi Eva Wallace Scearce Eanes, Fred Nathaniel Wallace, Boyd Edward Wallace, Douglas Dee Wallace, Louise Lavada Wallace Richardson, John Aaron Wallace, Bertha Mae (Wallace) Stowe, Julian Lee Wallace, and Catherine Wallace. She married James William Jeffcoate on June 16, 1919 in Pittsylvania County, and they were married until James' death on March 10, 1957 in Mullens, Wyoming County, West Virginia. She had a child Ruth Virginia (Jeffcoate) Spencer Belenski. Helen Jeffcoate Shumate died at age 69 years old on February 14, 1972 in Pineville, Wyoming County, and was buried on February 17, 1972 at Resthaven Memorial Park 1917 W Main St, in Princeton, Mercer County.

    Mrs. Helen Shumate Final rites for Mrs. Helen Jeffcoate Shumate, 68, Pineville, will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday at the Mullens United Methodist Church, of which she was a member, with the Revs. Phillip Graham and Randall Prince in charge. Burial will be in Resthaven Park, Princeton. She died at 6:45 P.M. Monday in a Mullens hospital after a short illness. She was a retired clerk of the G.C. Murphy Co., Mullens. She was born January 14, 1903 at Dryfork, VA., a daughter of the late Nathaniel and Julia Aaron Wallace. She is survived by her husband Leland; a daughter Mrs. Ruth Belenski, Cocoa Beach, FL.; two sons, H.H. and T.W. Jeffcoate, both of Mullens, and a stepson Billy Shumate, Bridgeton, N.J.; five brothers, Johnny, Franklinville, N.C., Raymond, Danville, V.A., Julian, Alderson, W.V., Douglas, Suffolk, V.A., Boyd (Buck), Beckley, W.V.; three sisters, Mrs. Bertha (W. T.) Stowe, Lynchburg, V.A., Mrs. Naomi (Glenn) Eanes, Chicago, I.L., and Mrs. Louise (Berkley) Richardson, Danville, V.A.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Foglesong, Nease and Neely Funeral Home, Mullens, W.V., after 3 P.M. Wednesday.
