She had siblings Louisa Hughes, Edna Maude Hughes, James Albert Hughes, William James Hughes, and Elizabeth Ann (Hughes) Brereton. She married Hugh Mcpherson in 1894, and had children Elizabeth Melrose Mcpherson, Elizabeth Melros Mcpherson, Beatrice Mary Mcpherson, Charles Leslie Mcpherson, Charles Leslie Mcpherson, Grace Mcpherson, Mary Mcpherson, Jessie Louisa Mcpherson, and Stella Mcpherson. Helena Mcpherson died at age 57 years old in 1927 in Kyneton.
