Mary Ann Cronk was born in Speenhamland, Berkshire UK. Her maiden name was Blanchard, born to Thomas and Sarah (nee Harding) Blanchard. When one year old the family migrated to Australia aboard the sailing vessel "Sir Edward Parry", arriving in Geelong in 1852. Soon after they went to Ballarat during the gold rush and settled there. Sarah Mary Ann had 11 siblings, 5 of whom died in infancy or childhood. Sarah Mary Ann Blanchard married Henry Cronk whose family had also emigrated from UK to Australia. Henry was a butcher and they had a successful business in Ballarat. In 1894 they took up an allotment in Gippsland where they farmed. After Henry died Sarah Mary Ann managed the farm. She died in Footscray, a suburb of Melbourne in the home of her daughter. I am Sarah Mary Ann's great granddaughter.
