Henry Wiffen had siblings Susannah Wiffen Thwaites, Amy Ann (Wiffen) Thwaites, John Wiffen, Edward Wiffen, Elizabeth Wiffen, Mary Ann Wiffen, Samuel Wiffen, Annie Wiffen, Alice Wiffen, Jane Wiffen, Emma Wiffen, George Arnold Wiffen, and James Thomas Wiffen. He married Alice Christina Frith in 1902. He would also marry Henrietta Mary Carey in 1916. Henry Wiffen died at age 45 years old in 1918 in Caulfield, City of Glen Eira County.

In 1873, in the year that Henry "Harry" Wiffen was born, on September 18th, the New York stock market crash - due to the failure of a number of banks - began the Panic of 1873. After the boom following the Civil War, the Coinage Act of 1873 and other factors led to the market crash. Thus began the "Long Depression" - also called the "Great Depression" until the 1930's.

In 1889, at the age of 16 years old, Henry was alive when on March 31st, the Eiffel Tower was inaugurated. Because the elevators were not yet in operation, officials had to climb to the top of the tower - it took an hour. On May 15th, the Tower opened to the public - still without working elevators - but around 30,000 visitors still made the climb. The elevators went into operation on the 26th. The Tower wasn't considered aesthetically pleasing at the time but is now one of the most iconic structures in the world.
