Henry Warren Pickering of Kew Australia was born on November 11, 1873 in Kooroocheang, Hepburn Shire County, VIC to Louis Pickering and Harriet Butler Pickering. Henry Pickering had siblings Harriet Sophia (Pickering) Allison, Winifred Pickering, George Louis Pickering, William Pickering, Ellen Pickering Sullivan, and Albert Pickering. He married Geneva Lafranchi in 1906. They had a child Florence Mary Pickering. He also married Phyllis Lamont Dentry in 1941. Henry Pickering died at age 73 years old in 1946 in Kew.

In 1873, in the year that Henry Warren Pickering was born, on September 18th, the New York stock market crash - due to the failure of a number of banks - began the Panic of 1873. After the boom following the Civil War, the Coinage Act of 1873 and other factors led to the market crash. Thus began the "Long Depression" - also called the "Great Depression" until the 1930's.
