my Uncle, Herbert A Rainbird, left the U.S. in 1940 and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force to fight Hitler's Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain... he was a bombardier, and his plane was shot down. He was a POW in a German camp for 2 1/2 years .. I am very proud of his bravery and his service. This was a time when the U.S. would not enter the war in Europe, and he put his life where his mouth was.
