The Ararat Advertiser, September 1915. PRIVATE H. STANLEY. A gloom was cast over Mount Cole on Wednesday, when it became known that Private H. Stanley ( Bert ), eldest son of Mrs. S. Hearn, had been killed in action at the Dardenelles on 7th August. The deceased who was killed shortly before his twentieth birthday, was very popular throughout the district. He took a keen interest in all sporting movements, and prior to enlisting was secretary of the Warrak Football Club. As a token of respect to his memory, the flag of the State School, in which he received the latter part of his education, was flown at half- mast, and the scholars were dismissed at midday. Private R. Stanley, a brother of deceased, is also serving with the forces in Egypt. Much sympathy is felt for his mother and the family.
