He married Lucy Ellen (Lister) Ridgwell, and died at age 70 years old on June 2, 1945 in Montrose, Yarra Ranges Shire County, VIC Australia. Herbert Ridgwell was buried at Burwood Cemetery Gilmour St, in Burwood, Whitehorse City County.

RIDGWELL. - On June 2, at his home, Montrose, Herbert, dearly loved husband of the late Lucy Ridgwell, loved brother of William ( B.E.F., deceased), Alice ( England), Florence ( Mrs. Castelle ), Beatrice ( Mrs. Crisp ), Alfred ( A.I.F., deceased ), fond uncle of Kathleen, Phyllis ( Mrs. Ferguson ), Clement, Dorrie ( Mrs. Gordon ), and Edna ( Mrs. Whitehead ), and dear brother-in-law of Queen ( Mrs. Ridgwell ). Aged 71 years. Late of 27th Battery, 1st A.I.F. - Fond memories.
