I knew Herta when I lived in Germany. She lived in Kaiserslautern. She was born in Germany, a Jew, and during the war, her and her family were put into Dachau, her family were all killed by the Nazis. She was rescued by the American Soldiers when they occupied Germany and released the Jews. She was taken to America where the Finnegan family adopted her and age her their last name. She grew up in America, and married. She later moved back to Germany because the Government owed her compensation for her time in Dachau. I met her when my husband was stationed in Germany back in 1987-91. She was in her 50's then and she had bad health problems because of her time in Dachau. Her bones (all of them) were brittle and had holes in them. She was taking liquid calcium IV's and eating Calcium tablets and drinking milk like there was no tomorrow. I remember she broke her thumb once when she was peeling an orange, a rib when she rolled over in bed and her ankle as she was stepping off of the curb to walk to the other side of the street. A friend of mine who worked in Landsthul Medical Facility, told me of a new medicine they were using to help stop Osteoporosis and I gave Herta the information so she could let her Doctor know about it. Her Doctor, got the medicine and started giving it to her. He first took x-rays of her bones and then 6 months later retook the x-rays and you could see where the holes were being filled with new calcium. We were very happy. Herta was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
