Add Memories, Stories & Photos about Hilda

Hilda was my incredible mother. She was born in obscurity on October 24, 1927 in the back country of Yara Cuba. She fled Cuba in April 1961 and due to an error on he documentation, they mistook 1927 for 1921. As a result, her legal documents all showed her birth year as 1921 instead of 1927. I wanted to tell the world about a woman that knew more hardships and challenges than most people but she was the proverbial coffee bean. When put through hot water, it changes the water into something wonderful instead of letting the hot water change it. She was loved and loved many people and my only regret is that while I was her caregiver until she passed away and made sure she had the best quality of life possible, her funeral service had a very low attendance. This has really hurt me because I feel like I failed her. She was born in obscurity and her "celebration of life" service was for all intents and purposes obscure as well. I found this website and wanted to share this with everyone then my mother's spirit spoke to me. "In the end, what matters is that those who truly love us are present to say goodbye."
