Mom on her shrimp boat in Daphne, Al
She survived the Atomic Bomb when she was 19yrs old. She lived close enough to ground zero to see the bomb hit the city. She hid in a closet until it was over but traveled later that evening to make sure her aunt was ok who lived on the other side of town. She saw a yellow glow emitting from the city but never could find the English word to describe what she saw. She met my father, Earnest Hicks while he was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. My parents married in Japan and lived there for 4 years. Later she found she was suffering from tuberculosis and was allowed into the US to undergo surgery of having her lung removed.
