Homer Frisby of Fort Wayne, Allen County, IN was born on June 21, 1918 to L. Joseph Frisby and Minnie Frisby. He had siblings Atron Frisby, Irene Frisby Miguel, Elizabeth Marie Frisby Eggleston Depoy, and Edith Frisby Rendon. He married Maxine L. Berberich Frisby, and had children Richard Wayne Frisby, Norma Jean Frisby Schmucker, Robert Homer Frisby, Donald Eugene Frisby, Betty L. Frisby Miller, James David Lee Frisby, Connie Irene Frisby, and Carolyn Sue. Homer Frisby died at age 80 years old on October 27, 1998.

In 1918, in the year that Homer Frisby was born, on November 1, an elevated train on the Brooklyn line of the subway - driven by an inexperienced operator because of a strike - tried to navigate a turn at 30mph. The limit on the curve was 6 mph. The 2nd and 3rd cars of the 5 car wooden train were badly damaged and at least 93 people were killed, making it the deadliest crash in New York subway history.

In 1927, Homer was just 9 years old when the first "talkie" (a movie with music, songs, and talking), The Jazz Singer, was released. Al Jolson starred as a cantor's son who instead of following in his father's footsteps as expected, becomes a singer of popular songs. Banished by his father, they reconcile on his father's deathbed. It was a tear-jerker and audiences went wild - especially when they heard the songs. Thus begun the demise of silent films and the rise of "talkies".
