Leek, Betsey Elizabeth Leek, Elizabeth Amanda Leek, and Frederick T. Leek. Horace Leek died at age 11 years old circa 1859 in Derby.

In 1848, in the year that Horace C. Leek was born, on February 2nd, the Mexican–American War ended with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The Rio Grande River became the border for Texas and California and parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming became US territory. Ninety percent of the population in those areas chose to become US citizens.

In 1850, when he was only 2 years old, on July 10th, President Millard Fillmore - previously Vice-President to Zachary Taylor - became the 13th President of the United States. Taylor had become ill with a still unknown intestinal ailment on July 4th and died on July 9th as a result. He had been a little over a year into his term.
