  • Introduction

    Hugh and his brother John travelled from Ireland to enlist in Liverpool and were in the 17th Battalion of The King's Liverpool Regiment. He fell in the assault on Trones Wood and was taken to Beaumont Hamel and initially buried at Guillemont and was later exhumed and buried at Serre No. 2. His brother John was gassed but survived the war. Their father was a lighthouse keeper off the southern coast of Ireland.
