Hyman Mates was my uncle. He was married to Stella Mates. They lived in Dade County Florida. Hyman Mates Joined the Army in Aug. 1940, before the war broke out he was D.I.
for the Army. When the war broke out he was sent to Africa, were he was machine gunned in the face and taken prisoner by the Germans. He was taken back to Germany where he stay for 2 years until his release in 1945. After the war he moved Miami were his mom was located and where he met Stella his wife. They never had children of their own but had brother's and a sister and nieces and nephew's that loved them very much. My uncle and aunt were 2 of the most unselfish people I've ever met. They will always be missed.
