Ida May Wheaton was born in 1890 to Mary Jane (Curnow) Wheaton and Samuel Algar Wheaton, and had siblings William Curnow Wheaton, Gordon Victor Wheaton, Stanley Norman Wheaton, Robert Curnow Wheaton, Ethel Jane (Wheaton) Douglas, George Clarence Wheaton, Olive Vera Allery (Wheaton) Nankervis, Lily Wheaton, and Mabel Wheaton. Ida Wheaton died at age 50 years old in 1940, and was buried at Cheltenham Cemetery in Cheltenham, Bayside City County, VIC Australia.

In 1890, in the year that Ida May Wheaton was born, on June 1st, the U.S. Census Bureau started tabulating census returns with punch cards. Herman Hollerith's "tabulating machine" used punch cards to more quickly compute census information, taking the time to get census results from 8 years in 1880 to 6 years for the 1890 census. Hollerith's company eventually became IBM.
