He married Mabel Dorman (Fyler) Bennett on February 17, 1896 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California United States. They had a child Amy E Bennett. He married Ella Louise Bennett. Ira Bennett died at age 88 years old on March 26, 1957 in Liberty, Missouri United States.

Stanton - who was opposed to Johnson's leniency towards the former Confederacy - the US House of Representatives voted (126 to 47) to impeach Andrew Johnson. Johnson was later acquitted in the Senate by one vote short of the required 2/3rds.Senators crossed party lines to keep Johnson as President.
